The Company, was founded by Gillian Miller, I live with my husband and three children in California, USA.
As a child growing up my Uncle, had Type 1 Diabetes and my Grandmother had Type 2 Diabetes. I was very involved with both of their care and management and dealt with all the complications on a daily basis.
On Valentines Day 2003, my eldest daughter [then 10 years of age] was rushed to the hospital, where she spent 7 days and was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Since then I have lived, breathed and slept Diabetes. I am involved in ALL aspects of my daughter’s management of diabetes.
Diabetes, when it strikes, is a disease that leaves both the victim and the care-givers resentful, angry, confused, and frightened. It is natural to feel this way. I have empathy for you and will support you every step of the way.
I have spent a very frustrating 2 years trying to find and locate certain products that help myself and daughter with the management of her diabetes. I offer QUICK, EASY and SECURE SHOPPING for every day items and hard to find items. I [or my daughter] have tried out many of the items. Please be assured that EVERY item on this web site has been tested by my daughter or me, every book has been read and has been helpful. I will never put anything on this site that I have not found useful, helpful, clever or just plain GREAT.
I am very, very involved and a member of almost every Diabetes Association and group. I get almost all magazines and periodicals, which I actually read. I attend meeting and even go to Diabetic Camps. I attend most Trade Shows. I am in constant touch with Manufactures and am even part of some Diabetic studies and survey’s.
There is no better teacher than “hands on experience”. I cared for my grandmother [Type 2] for many years and now I care for Laura. Laura’s initial diagnosis, intensive care, her multiple hospital stays and my day and night commitment to her well being, right through to a recent visit to Africa, where her pump stopped working while on Safari, have provided me not only experience but a great deal of ‘feel’, understanding and insight into the care,management and commitment to diabetes.
I know we can all look at the negatives of Diabetes on the person and on the family, but I have found many positives. I am now a Diabetic expert, I know more about food and Nutrition labels, than almost anyone. I know how exercise affects Diabetes. I know how diabetics can be discriminated against. I know about sticking to a schedule and being highly organized. I know about complications. I know how to travel with a Diabetic. I know about highs and lows. I know about almost every Blood Glucose Meter, syringe and Insulin Pump. I have read all the books and articles [on an ongoing basis]. I know what it is to get up in the middle of the night to test Blood Sugars. I am more sympathetic to others who
have both physical and emotional problems. I have learnt to be very, very patient.
I am not a medical expert, but I live with this disease every day and night. It is a
disease of major inconvenience, but it is totally manageable, given the correct education
and the right tools. This is where The And More Company, Inc and its Affiliates come in.
